Just as the title says, I'm please to announce my book is now available on Barnes and Noble website. It's FREE. If you decide to take a look and download a copy for yourself, please leave constructive reviews. Please do NOT criticize the author. I've had one removed because of the remarks.
I'm in the process of running my first NOVEL through a critique group. (I've made the mistake in the past of nothing finding one before hand) If you're a writer, I'd suggest joining a critique group for as much help with revising your rough draft. You want to polish it pretty before putting it on the stands. This process will take a while. Therefore, the release day of Silenced is, at this time, unknown.
Last thing I wanted to mention is about my Photo Contest. There is two days left to join in. The last day is Aug 1st for submissions. Subject of the photo's are nature. Max total you can submit is 5. Any questions feel free to ask. Email your submission to raebethmcgee@hotmail

Most recent Crits
As you all know, I'm part of two different critique groups. I find myself on one more often than the other. I really like the Critique Circle better. I really like the layout. One thing I find confusing though is the Tit for Tat list. This list is generated once you give critiques or receive a crit of your own. I've given 21 crits so far on other author's work. The tit for tat list keeps track of this. I'm guessing, respectfully, if someone crits your work, it's only right to crit their work. Well, in two weeks, I have gotten four critiques. None of which are from those who I critiqued.
One thing that does bother me is when a person tries to find mistakes within the piece. As an example, naming a run on sentence when it's clear it's not a run on sentence. OR Saying a sentence is too wordy and jammed back with information, when clearly it's not. This has happened to me once. Out of the four reviews, only one person seemed to not actually read the chapter I posted and commented on it. I get this vibe because of their lack of information within their comments.
So, my advice when giving a critique is:
1. Be Helpful and Not Hurtful : Suggest revisions instead of telling.
2. Actually READ the piece of work. Don't just skim though it to get credit for the critique. In my eyes, this doesn't give the person a good rep within the website. It only goes to show that person isn't critique worthy.
3. Write critiques in a neutral tone using neutral words: I think, Perhaps, Maybe, etc.
4. Lastly, let the author know that you're no professional. All the comments that are made within a critique are only comments and can be used if the author feels it's right. Mention they can use what helps and disregard what doesn't.
Well, there you have it. My in site on critiques. (No I'm not a professional)

Critique Circle
I'd like to pass on a wonderful critique website that I came across. Those who are looking to critique other's work or have yours looked at... this is the best place to go. Every crit I got on the papers I submitted were very helpful. I think this is the best website for a writer that I stumbled on. So, come join in, make a few friends, and share your ideas.
Here's the website.

Update 7/20
Lately, things have been rather crazy for me. I'd like to give the update on my latest short story, The Miracle. As of yesterday, it was accepted into the premium catalog with smashwords.com. This means there will be a variety of places it can be downloaded. (i.e. Barnes n Noble) As of today there has been close to 350 downloads. Yay!!!
I have been working hard to polish up my manuscript for my current work in progress, Silenced. It's been a long four years since I first started writing it. After many writer's block and sleepless nights, I can say when it's released... all my hard work will pay off. I know my reader's out there will love it.
I've also been busy on a new critique site that I found and fell in love with. Critters Circle, for the win. There's so many helpful people there and I have made some interesting conversations. I've read some awesome works in progress. Must say, many talented authors out there. I just hope they all get what they deserve and they are happy with their outcomes.
There are several idea's pondering around for new novels. I just can't wait to start on them. But it's best to only focus on one at a time.
I would like to remind everyone of my current contest.... which the details are listed on the blog as well... the photo contest. Please only submit one picture into the contest. Email all entries to raebethmcgee@hotmail.com
Any questions, feel free to ask. :)

Pure Excitement
Yesterday, I released my short story, The Miracle, to the public as a free download. I'm over excited with how many downloads there are in such a short amount of time. At 11am this morning, on Smashwords websites, I had the total of 168 downloads with 6 people adding it to their library. This amazes me because the book hasn't even been released for 24 hours. So, I want to thank each and every one of those who have downloaded a copy.
I am sitting here at my laptop, cleaning house, come back to my laptop, get more coffee, back to the laptop... just to check to see if someone put a review up. I have waited for so long to release this short story and see what people think. I know that if people enjoy this book, they will with no doubt in my mind love my novel, Silenced. (Which I am revising and editing).
With that in thought, if you haven't had the chance to get a copy of your own. Feel free to visit, http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/71446 .
Please remember to add your review to the website as well as add it to my website: http://www.freewebs.com/raebethmcgee/
Hope you have a wonderful day and enjoy my book. : )

Idea's of Contests
Well, I want to let all that follow me about the future contests. Providing everything works out as planned, I have several contests for my most active fans. This includes being an active member on my website, blog, twitter, and facebook group. One of the idea's that I am thinking of for a Valentines Day Contest is a Nook Color with covercase and screen protectors. Wouldn't it nice to win that. More details coming.
I'm also wanting to announce that I am taking donations to my Marketing Fund. This means that all contests will be available due to those who help. The more help I get, the more fun we can have. Here is the most recent bulletin that I have:
